Back to our roots we go. Here we have a good old fashioned aggrotech/harsh EBM/hellektro/dark electro (what the fuck am I supposed to call this anyway?) EP by a band called R010R, which I don't know how to pronounce. I suppose it's not pronounced R zero one zero R, so you're in the same boat I am, assuming you care.

The thing that caught me off guard about this EP was the thoughtful lyrics. Listening to FGFC820's remix of Human Circumference, I decided to actually listen to the lyrics. Instead of being about death, aggression, technology or dancing, it was about all the the things that make all of us human (I guess I don't really remember). R010R is here trying to not fall into the generic hurr durr of aggrotech lyrics, and actually bothers to give a shit about what they say! WoW!

But don't expect any Bob Dylan shit here. This is still industrial.

Anyway the music is really good and harsh and dancey so they didn't fag out by not dumbing down (yay). I recommend you download this, it's actually one of the better harsh EBM things I fell into as of recently.

Obviously an 80's child, whoever the hell is behind DDD throws on another Duran onto the infamous Duran Duran and then proceeds to make loud obnoxious breakcore. Is there another kind of breakcore? Maybe, but who cares. Very Pleasure will hit the spot for anyone looking for some loudness, some chaos. Or for something to make your family members look at you funny.

In closing, you know how most untitled tracks, or hidden tracks, are usually either rejects from previous albums or garbage ambience? Well (untitled track) is actually a Slayer cover and my favorite song on the album. Party hard

Hello again, sorry for the long non-update time. However, I do have something to offer, a real fucking treat. I was directed to this site Dark Mourning Productions by a friend of mine. DMP's job is to make sure that unsigned industrial/gothic artists get the recognition they deserve, and they do a good job of it. This compilation is of 16 DMP artists, all in the more dancey side of industrial. Quite a few songs on here, such as Divide Unite, In My Dreams, Jesus Loves You [Mix], Rage Of Angels, and Bionic Enhancement are actually extremely fucking good. It is suprising to me that these bands are unsigned, actually. In fact, almost every song here is worth listening to, and it's what I've been mostly listening to ever since I first downloaded it. Finish him! BRUTALITY

Dethklok is the infamous death metal band followed in Adult Swim's show Metalacolypse. The show is funny as fuck, and both of these albums are really fucking good. They are pretty much on par with each other, in my opinion. Blast beats, growls, brutal riffs, and some funny ass lyrics. Dethklok does a great job of being amazing and funny.

Exploding Head is a very apt name for A Place To Bury Strangers' sophomore opus. When I listened to it for the first time, my head literally exploded. After I had gotten my pieces back together and experienced expensive reconstructive surgery, I decided to upload it for all y'all good folks right here. Stranger's sound is very noisy and chaotic, but not random or pointless (too many bands have fallen into that trap. R.I.P.). Highly melodic and almost even poppy elements show their heads in the songs, and create a very absorbing experience. It is so easy to get lost in Everything Always Goes Wrong, which is one of the best fucking songs ever I swear to god... Lyrics are often abstract and haunting. And to be frank, the album artwork is fucking awesome, too. Can't place why, but it is. So, yeah... Download this one.

Well, all hail Buried Inside's latest album. Spoils Of Failure is a success. The whole album is filled with intense and dark sludgey, thick, and complex progressive metal or whatever the fuck this shit is really called. I'm not the best classifier. But this album is really fucking good. It's hard to pick favorites with this album, mostly because there is no filler. It's all quality music. And the bass is distinct, and that's always a plus.

If you're wondering where I've been, then that rocks, because I honestly thought everyone forgot about this site. Well here I am. I hope I can actually keep y'all in with a steady stream of music this time. And hopefully you niggas will appreciate my efforts.

Well I am tired as fuck so I am going to do the righteous thing and try to get some rest. Expect more.

Although this dual-disc was released 2006, it's actually a compilation of works from 1990 to 1998. The songs are taken from Alchemist's first three albums Spiritech, Jar of Kingdom, and Lunasphere. There are also two from a '9o demo (Jar Of Kingdom, Paisley Bieurr), a '91 demo (Enhancing Enigma, Imagination Flower), a '94 promo (My Animated Truth, Closed Chapter), and one from the Eve Of The War EP (guess). However, there isn't really any sense of disconnectedness or fracturedness on Embryonics. In fact, there is only one sense on Embryonics: pure fucking awesomeness. Alchemist is sort of a clever combination of Death Metal, Progressive Metal, Psychadelic music, and Eastern Influences, with just a dab of experimentalism. All together, this creates an amazing experience that simply is stunning. Imagine a 8 armed caveman multi-instrumentalist that simply creates amazing music. Now imagine him being eaten by a T-Rex, and that dinosaur gains all of his genes. This dinosaur is then abducted by 5 ambidextrous aliens. The dinosaur is eaten by these aliens, and they gain the caveman's musical genes. They then return to earth and form Alchemist. That is how fucking godly this band can sound. It's so original and refreshing to listen to this band that it hurts (in such a good way). BOTH of these discs are worth your time. Embryonics is simply amazing.

With a name like Acid Ice Flows, one can't help but be curious as to what the music sounds like, or maybe perhaps what goes on in the artists head. AIF is, according to the liner notes of Utumno, the combined creative efforts of Adam and Red. Although I own the album, AIF has recently put out Utumno and 3 unreleased tracks out on last.fm for free download. The tracks you will (hopefully) be downloading for the full-length are burned in 320 kb, and both are in .rar, so it will be easier for you to download all at once. Now, on to the music. I must admit I love their name (Acid Ice Flows just sounds so bad ass), I wondered what exactly Utumno meant. I assumed for a long time that it was just a made up word. Turns out, Utumno is a place in Middle-Earth. OK, whatever floats their boat. But their music is top notch, particuarly for being done for no profit in their spare time. Don't make the mistake of downloading this and expecting some sort of extreme dance music, because this ain't it. With the exception of Wreckage and maybe A:Stfunoya, nothing here is really too fit for the dancefloor. This is grade-a dark electro. The vocalist usually sounds like a man gargling a vocoder, and although that sounds really silly, it actually manages to sound really creepy. The synths accentuate the sound well, and the overall mood is extremely dark. However, I think Utumno really picks up after Barbed-Wire God, although Wreckage is probably my favorite track. The songs after Lidless Eyes are much less childy aggressive in their lyrics, and the synths are generally more creative.

The unreleased tracks are a (good) cover of The Cure's All Cats Are Grey, a (good) cover of Coil's The Anal Staircase (dedicated to the late great Johnny Balance), and the (good) AIF original A:Stfunoya. All of these songs are worth downloading as well, and are on par with Utumno.

An Selection of Indie Pop Gems

So being that all music doesn't have to focus on the hard core element here is a little tribute to some indie pop favorites you may have never heard of. This list will feature 5 groups and songs old and new for your music exploration pleasure and a little side info for your music education! Now what do I consider indie? Any song that isn't played on your normal radio station, but are awesome and basically the antithesis of everything that you hear on the radio. Pop on the radio is mostly manufactured and gone over about a million times till the sparkly zest has been stripped out by digital manipulation and glossily sleeked over by drum machines and fake guitars. Every now and then you come across some real gems, that showcase some genuinely real talent.

1. The Waifs- London Still and The Haircut this is a very talented trio of Australian "folk pop" singers whose eclectic and smart lyrics deserve some recognition. There are several songs of The Waifs I could have picked but here we will discuss my two favorites the first being The Haircut off of their 1998 (yeah its 10 years old!) album Sink or Swim. This song is stripped bare and emotionally charged proving often that you don't need more than a guitar and a voice to provide a real powerful song.

The second Waifs tune that I find really appealing is London Still from their 2003 album Up all night. While not garnering alot of play or air time in the states these musicians provide ridiculously smart songs with intelligent lyrics and upbeat tempo with a slightly dark and emotionally charged underbelly.

2. Spoon- Everyone heard the Underdog and the Ipod song (I turn my camera on) but a little deeper exploration will provide you with some real pop gems. One of my favorites is Black like Me from the Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga album. First lets just discuss their use of a full sound... I'm always a fan of any group who incorporates instruments you don't often hear in songs, Spoon likes horns and I think that is cool. Their Songs definitely have a full orchestrated tight sound and that makes them awesomely fun to listen to. On a side note I also really enjoy That's the Way Get By, that uses a jangly piano and a tamborine and and an opening line of 'We get high in the backseats of cars' totally pulls you in.

3. Regina Spektor- On The Radio... dude I don't even know how exactly to describe this song. It is at once hopeful and yet tainted, at the same time it has this unbelievably uplifting and yet haunting beat. It really seems as though thru the course of the song while she is singing this song is building to a crescendo. It's at once taut and calculated and ridiculously applicable to every single human being. I appreciate great lyrics, I especially appreciate them when the music and the lyrics meld together to give you a picture, this song is so visual it paints a story that you want to follow. This is a skill not many have mastered... I think Regina Spektor is one of the best story tellers. Also check out my favorite piano rap songs Consequence of Sound and the lovely yet creepy Pavlov's Daughter, that one is like a Voyeur's delight!

4. Postal Service- Ok so when your song makes it on to an M&M commercial (Such Great Heights) are you still indie enough? The answer is yes when you use a fusion of some of the best talent and beats that compliment the semi sweet straightforwardness of Ben Gibbards Voice not to mention Jenny Lewis in lots of the harmonies. I will be discussing a few songs that you may never have heard of but deserve mentioning.
Firstly the much regaled Phil Collins Cover Against All Odds, which was a very emotionally bare type of song but in this Postal Service Cover the song becomes so much more poignant with its very stripped beat, and Ben Gibbard's slightly confrontational tone.
This Place is a Prison is my next favorite with its almost plodding beat and the most effective use of an organ to drive a whole song. It is hauntingly beautiful.
Brand New Colony has the sweetest harmonies and the best lyrics I've heard in recent memory and the best use of 80s video game sounds. It's seriously worth a listen or four.
Then of course there is the only song with a 4 minute intro that I didn't turn off. Natural Anthem really has the music as its showcase in this tune... But just when you are so into it then they have the last minute with basically a completely smart and disarmingly sweet lyric. Postal Service has mastered soft Techno and the bonus part is the smart lyrics delivered and perfectly matched to the music.

5. If I could recommend one band to all, it would be Rilo Kiley and Jenny Lewis. Best known as the Red Headed Girl from oodles of eighties movies (including the Wizard with Fred Savage and most recently Foxfire with a very young Angelina Jolie), Jenny Lewis has been quite the busy girl in the last 5 years providing us with some of the greatest pop gems. My Rilo Kiley Crush started with Portions for Foxes, There is something ridiculously sexy about that song, you know when you are with somebody you know you shouldn't be and everyone's telling you no? This is the song for you. The lyrics are so smart and so true but this is confessional pop at its greatest. Glendora is another favorite of mine and it is so in your face and blatant, and Jenny Lewis carries it off with such a sweet voice that it becomes addictive and you find yourself singing it to toddlers. But lets not forget about Blake Sennett who sings on some stunners like Ripchord where the emotion is so blatantly on display and so in your face and raw. One of my all time favorites is A Better Son/Daughter, it is completely the anthem of angst and parent pleasing with a simple message, fight it out, fake it till you make it.
But I have combined Jenny Lewis and Rilo Kiley here because the two go together... but I must say that Jenny Lewis's solo efforts as well of those of Rilo Kiley have started to cross over to mainstream radio and garnering more critical acclaim. Jenny Lewis's new album is definitely worth a listen to, Acid Tongue is a truly great album with appearances by Elvis Costello, Chris Robinson and She & Him (I highly recommend ALL of these folks as well). This is a turn for Lewis using lots of guitars and having a slick kind of dark underbelly we haven't seen from her solo stuff and this is a strong contrast to the country gospel inspired Rabbit Fur Coat. I highly recommend The Next Messiah and See Fernando and from Her first solo release Rabbit Fur Coat I recommend Rise up with Fists.

AC/DC has always been one of those bands that anybody could listen to. Regardless of what else was on your iPod, AC/DC was rarely a band that stuck out like a sore thumb. AC/DC Live is, well, AC/DC performing live (I hope I didn't have to tell you that). I, for one, have never really been too big of a fan of live albums, but this one is extremely well produced. It seems a bit more personal and alive as well, since you can hear the crowd and Angus and all them men. This album is also a very definitive collection of AC/DC's works. Hells Bells, Dirty Deeds, For Those About To Rock, Thunderstruck, Shoot To Thrill... They're all here. I don't suppose I need to inform you of AC/DC's sound, but I guess I must (this is a review after all). AC/DC plays hard rock with lots of riffs and is highly sexually charged. Every member of AC/DC has fucked more women than you have seen. A lot of people say they listen to AC/DC to look cool. AC/DC does not stand for anything satanic or homosexual. AC/DC were once called upon to destroy an asteroid that would destroy earth. They played in a crater and rocked so damn hard they destroyed the whole thing. AC/DC are one of the serious figureheads in hard rock and heavy metal. This was my first album in my entire life (so naturally, I'm a bit biased).

A quick glance can tell us what we need to know here. How brutal is this artist? Check the name. Aborted. Seems disgusting enough. Album name check: Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture. Long-winded album title that hints at themes of dismemberment and gore. Check, seems brutal. Album artwork: some nigga is just chillin there, but he looks like a zombie sewn out of various other parts. Also looks unhappy. Check, that's pretty gosh darn brutal. Track names: use big words to display the simple ideas of murder and gore and darkness. Check, we've got a pretty fucking brutal band here. But how brutal do they sound? Well, let's find out. I'll check out The Spaying Séance, because it has a non english character in it. OK, chug chug chug goes the guitars, boom boom boom goes the double bass, growl growl growl goes the vocalist. Seems formulaic enough. But The Spaying Séance, as most of the album, does not seem to fall into the trap of being pidgeon-holed into either Technical or Melodic Death Metal. The riffs are more than two seconds, but it isn't all soaring melodies. That' s a nice change. And the vocalist doesn't goregrind growl ALL the time. Some times he utilizes a metalcore scream, which can shift things up a bit. And the solo on The Spaying Séance is currently melting my face oh shit aaaaahhhhhhhhh

Abandonded Pools - Armed To The Teeth

Genre: Alternative Rock/Indie

Well, the first artist I have lined up in this little experiment is Abandonded Pools. Abandoned Pools is Tommy Walter, one of the founders and previous bassists for Eels. At first, Tommy's falsetto voice may draw allusions to Coldplay or other whiny third rate Radiohead imitators, but the songwriting is much better than that crowd's. The songs generally seem to have tight guitar leads accompanied by a chorus line, and it's done well. Walter's lyrics can seem cheesey, but that's mostly due to the falsetto he delivers them in. In reality, a lot of the lyrics seem to be very well thought out, although at times they can be a little cliche. All in all, this is a tight little album that has brought me much listening pleasure.

Angelspit - Krankhaus

Angelspit is probably as close to actually accessible industrial you may find. It's not bad, though. It sounds industrial with heavy dance themes, but retains some sort of metal edge still. Good for an introduction to industrial music, for the synths are still harsh, beats are intense, and lyrics are pretty hardcore, but you can actually understand what the fuck they're saying.

Just when all hope seemed gone, the infamous Nivek Ogre and cEvin Key finally got back together to make some more music magic. Unfortunately, this album really split the fanbase. Some people were able to dig it (lol pun), whereas others were saddened by the new direction SP had taken. The sound here is very little like, say, Too Dark Park or Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse. The electronic beats here are a lot crisper and clean than older Puppy. In fact, some songs, such as "I'mmortal" and "Pro-Test" seem to have a little pop in them. That's not to say that this isn't the SP we all know in love. Not at all. It still has the classic sound to it, it's just... different. I really like this album. I can't really compare it to Too Dark Park, for it is very different. It's apples and oranges, ya know? But seriously, this is a good album, as can only be delivered by Skinny Puppy.

Gojira - From Mars To Sirius

In the metal genre, we hear a lot of bands that sound the same. That is not so with Gojira. Gojira does not compromise heaviness for it's creativity, however. The guitars are heavy, the vocals are harsh (but not in that generic cookie monster way. It's more of a harsh yell then a growl), and the drums utilize the infamous double bass. But damn, these guys can shred. And their lyrical content isn't your average slog of death and anti-Christian overtones. Songs like Global Warming and Flying Whales show a slightly more different approach to lyrics than many other metal bands. And the song Backbone... Damn, man. Good shit. To be short, Gojira injects the much needed creativity into the metal genre, and sacrifices nothing for it. A must have album for metal fans.

ohGr - Welt

Some of you may be familiar with the name ohGr. It's actually Nivek Ogre from the band Skinny Puppy. In his solo project, he creates sublime electronic music that isn't necessarily industrial. The music is generally upbeat and even danceable at times, and the lyrics aren't really that distorted. The singles, Cracker and Pore, seem to stand out as the best songs on the album, but to be honest, there isn't really any down time here. Slaves On Dope is kind of hard to classify, but none the less very good. I guess Nu Metal would be the proper classification. The music is hard and energetic. The vocals are often either pure speaking or pure screaming. The lyrics aren't the deepest around, but that's fine. Vulgar and offensive, lyrics like "fuck you, fucker" and songs like "Bitch Slap" show what this band is about. Don't expect to listen to SOD and get your regular hard rock. Expect angsty screaming and thrashing. That's not to say that this group isn't good. In fact, I like them a lot. Anyway, enjoy.

Front Line Assembly - Civilization

This is the first Front Line Assembly I've ever had, and is one of the best. Here, we can here Bill Leeb's over 20 years of experience come together and create a masterpiece. The first two tracks, Psychosomatic and Maniacal, are classic dancefloor stompers in the classic FLA style. The rest, however, show a deeper, more involved approach. The songs are more, well, ambient (lacking a better word). Tracks such as the title track and Transmitter are amazingly well put together songs that aim for someone other than the average industrial dance club attendee. They are masterful works of art (yeah I know I'm sucking a lot of dick here). That' s all I can say it is. Definitely an album for your industrial or electronica listener.

Mindless Self Indulgence - You'll Rebel To Anything

You'll Rebel To Anything was my first Mindless Self Indulgence album, and has remained in heavy rotation for me, along with almost any other MSI album. It's truly great stuff. Though classified as 'Shock Rock', I really don't find them very shocking (if you want shocking, check out Alien Vampires. With songs like 'I Fuck Nuns' and 'Fuck You We're Dead', they're a bit more in the shocking field. If you can understand what they say), but I still really like their sound. Very lighthearted in their lyrical content (under educated/over caffeinated/I just masturbated), one doesn't have to worry about them being to serious. The music itself is like a combination of hard rock with punk influences combined with dancey synthesizer sounds, creating one of the most fun listens I've ever had. Highlights include 'Straight To Video' and 'Stupid MF', but all the songs here are really really good.

[Distatix] is something that is not for the weak-hearted. This is industrial dance music in the most pure of forms. Driving beats, soaring synths, and harsh vocals make up an extremely hardcore experience. It's kind of like a swarm of angry-ass robots coming to fuck you up through your earphones. Songs like Medication, which is nothing more than a list of drugs to a dance beat, to Disappear, a sad but no less hardcore song. Don't download unless you really want music to fight and drive to, because [D] is perfect for that. You won't regret this, for sure.

Funker Vogt - Navigator

Let me first say that if you don't have Navigator, you aren't a true fan of dance industrial. This album features some of Funker Vogt's best songs, including Stronghold, No Tomorrow (for you, Shadz), and House of Sorrows. The music here is high octane dance music, for sure. The synths are lined up perfectly with the driving base. The vocals are surprisingly not very distorted, unlike some of their previous works, i.e. Thanks For Nothing, but it sounds better with the music anyway, so don't be disappointed. The album wraps up with two all-German songs, Fur Dich and Vorwarts. Fur Dich is a very gentle, melodic song, whereas Vorwarts seems to be the most intense song on the album. Seriously, download this. You'll be dancing all night.

Skinny Puppy - Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse

Many people consider Too Dark Park to be Skinny Puppy's top achievement. I, however, disagree. Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse puts forth plenty of dark, grinding bass and disturbing synths, in a fashion that is like no other. The music here is just very dark, and has an experimental feel to it. Don't expect some super synthesized dance music, not from Mind. Instead, expect extremely dark music with the ambient screams of Ohgr. This is also a landmark album in the historical sense, as well. This was the first album in which Ohgr did vocals, which had been done previously by Bill Leeb. Sound familiar? Leeb is the lead man for Front Line Assembly. Any band that has been associated directly to FLA can't be bad, right? Well, give it a shot.

Rap Compendium Vol. 1

Well I'm not really suppose to do this, but I haven't posted in forever, so I figure I'll give everyone something a little special. And while I probably won't do this again, I don't know how constantly I'll update, so I'm leaving room for Vol. 2 if need be.

First up, is the one of the newer pretty boys getting a lot of attention. I present Chris Brown's "Exclusive"

Now Chris Brown's "Exclusive" is a great blend of fast, energetic rap as well as some good slow songs to take to the bedroom, and his voice is soft, a stark contrast to many of the rappers out there who sound like fuckin' chain smokers. Anyway, some of the more notable songs are "Kiss Kiss", "Wall to Wall", and "Take You Down". The first two are on the quicker side, heavy beats with smooth lyrics, while "Take You Down" features slow rhythm and steady, hypnotizing drums in the background. "Exclusive" offers a great variety, and is a great buy.

Next on the list, is Lupe Fiasco's "The Cool"

Lupe Fiasco's "The Cool" is just an amazing juxtaposition of popular hip hop concepts, as well as the reality behind them. Two songs in mind emphasize this so clearly. The first is "Gold Watch", which seems a satire to the lifestyles portrayed by rappers. "Got my gold watch and my gold chain/with my fancy car and my diamond ring." It overemphasizes the importance of materialism (Baba Says Cool For Thought "Check your ingredients before you overdose on the cool") The next is "Dumb it Down", referring to the lyrics of rap songs. In the semi-chorus, the lyrics go "We aint graduate from school nigga (Dumb it down)/those big words aint cool nigga (Dumb it down). These two lines speak volumes about newer rap, if even other rappers view some rappers like this. A MUST buy for hip hop lovers.

And the finale for my compendium, Mos Def's "Black on Both Sides"
"They say the goodness in life belongs to those who believe, so, I believe."- Mos Def, "Love"

Mos Def is definitely not a new player to the game, being one of the few rappers on the forefront of underground hip hop in the 90's. His songs are deep, yet still appeal to those simply interested in a good song. Most of all, he has been an endearing departure from "Gangsta Rap". Some of hi songs include strong focus upon the black community, such as "Got", while songs like "New World Water" are geared more toward global issues. Not much can really be said for this album, but listen to it and you won't be disappointed. A definite must.

Drowning Dog - Got No Time

Drowning Dog is a rap group with something to say. Of all the remarkable things this album holds, the honest lyrics are the most prevalent. Drowning Dog is unabashedly anarchist. From the lyrics to the samples used, the music is focused around the ideas of ultimate human justice for everyone. DD wants a world where everyone is equal and poverty is no longer an issue, and offers anarchism as a way to get that. Many, if not most, songs are very sample heavy. Snippets from news interviews and other media outlets that support anarchism and anti-government practices are all over this album. The rapper herself (that's right, herself) is also very good. Her rhythm and rhymes are well constructed, and the beats are good and catchy. A great group.

Ministry - Psalm 69

When it comes to quintessential industrial albums, Psalm 69 ranks right up there with NIN's The Downward Spiral. The industrial metal that has made Ministry famous is most prevalent in this disc, from the singles 'NWO' and 'Jesus Built My Hotrod' to the hidden gems of 'Corrosion' and 'Grace'. The speed and brutality here is so amazing that Ministry has been having a hard time making an album that can reach the high position that this one has in the eyes of the industrial world. If you are a fan of either industrial or metal, this album is a must. It was a milestone of both when it was released, and has remained one of the dominating forces those genres. A must have.

:Wumpscut: has been at the forefront of the industrial music frontier for a while now. Creating music that Rudy R. describes as 'Endziet Electro', the harshness of the music is often unsurpassed. In Body Census, we hear why, even after 17 years, :W: has remained one of the top dogs in the industrial world. Sticking to a core sound, Body Census is a malevolent creation of distorted vocals and savage beats. When listening to :W:, don't expect to get out alive. The synths are dark and gritty, and the bass is sweeping and unforgiving. This album was a staple for me in 2006, and has remained in rotation for me even still. A definite must for any fans of industrial or :W: himself.

Neurosis - Times Of Grace

Neurosis is a hard band for me to explain. I suppose that on the surface, they can be described as a industrial-tinged metal band. The vocals are strained, like many metal albums, but it's not the stereotypical 'cookie monster growl' of many groups. Instead, the lead singer sounds more like a person yelling at a estranged lover, and he had been doing so for hours. Now that that's out of the way, the difficult part of explaining Neurosis comes up. The music itself is amazingly complex, and the songs are unabashedly long. Some songs push up to 10 minutes in length. Of course, those are the 'actual' songs. Sprinkled between hard core riffs and grungey guitars are 3 to 4 minute interludes, most atmospheric and dark. All in all, this album is like metal wrapped up in an extremely colorful blanket of switcheroos and complexity.

Front Line Assembly - Millenium

If you've been keeping tabs on the various FLA I've uploaded, you will have one of dance industrial and one of more complex electronica. In this album, which made it's debut in the 90's, they experiment with industrial metal. Heavy guitar riffs combined with aggressive electronic sounds creates a very pleasing aural experience. Songs like 'Division Of Mind' and 'Vigilante' show just how hard this album can be. The guitars here are more intense than they are speedy, so don't expect some sort of Dragonforce metal here. Instead, look for a more Obituary type of sound, where the metal is slow but heavy. All in all, a very desirable album, and a must have for any FLA fan.

Icon Of Coil - Serenity Is The Devil

Serenity Is The Devil, lead by Andy LaPlegua, who also does the electronic industrial acts Combichrist and Scandy, is a futurepop album with an aggressive edge. In IOC's debut full-length album, you will experience electronic dance music in its purist form. Andy does a great job creating a dancey type of music, and it is evident in almost all of the songs. Fiction, Shallow Nation, Floorkiller... All of them deliver the dance music you're looking for. But we can also hear the more delicate, introspective sounds of the group in the song Situations Like These. This was a landmark album in the futurepop genre, and perhaps one of the best out there. Highly recommended.

Armored Saint - Revolution

All you hungry for some classic metal, I've got some for ya, right here. Armored Saint, established 1982, is one of the most underrated bands in the classic metal scene, in my opinion. Perhaps you know of Anthrax? Yeah, everybody knows Anthrax. Well, some of the Saints had played in Anthrax, such as vocalist John Bush, when AS disbanded in the early 90's. But in 2000, they came back, great as ever, with this album: Revelation. A lovely piece of metal, this album is taking it back to the roots of the classics. Heavy guitars, mad drumming, and Bush's unmistakable vocals create an amazing listening experience. A definite must for all metal fans. Listen to what came before metal as we know it; listen to Armored Saint.

Low - Things We Lost In The Fire

Very few albums can even touch this one. Low has always been known for their slow, sad songs, and Things We Lost is perhaps their most accessible one, and definitely the best one to start off with. The lead singer and female backup vocalist are just haunting with their voices. A few songs on here are so beautifully crafted they send shivers down my spine. Another thing to note is the slow, steady pace of the music. I believe the technical term for Low's genre is 'sadcore' or 'slowcore', but I just call it 'amazing'. This is an album that is truly an essential for any music lover. A++.

The Retrosic - Nightcrawler

I have yet another treat for all you industrial fans, and that treat is Nightcrawler. The Retrosic's latest album is chock full of all kinds of EBM goodies, perfect for the danceclub regular. This isn't to say that it doesn't have a unique sound. In fact, the grittyness and rawness of this album create a very individual kind of music, one that has been done by a master of industrial dance. One can also sense a type of breakbeat influence in there as well, and perhaps even a little guitar every once in a while. But one thing's for sure: The Retrosic, from introspective Silence to the gritty hardcore that is The Lucky Ones, is a necessary addition to every industrial fan.

This album is right at the line between hard rock and light metal; the guitars are heavy and the vocals are harsh, but not so much that it sounds like true metal. When listened to, there almost seems to be a drone influence on the guitars, making for quite the interesting listen. Overall, this is a very solid album that belongs in the collection of any fan of any rock/metal fan.

Miles Davis - Doo-Bop

Ah, Miles Davis. We've all heard of him. His influence in both the jazz and overall musical world are renowned. With Doo-Bop, his final album, Miles takes things a step further. While he plays trumpet, there is generally a funky hip hop sound that seems to be influenced by acid jazz. On top of that, there is the incredible rapping of Easy Mo Bee, which just fills out the album and puts the cherry on top. This is a vital album for the collection of either jazz or hip hop/rap fans. I recommend highly.

Cesium 137 - Elemental

Cesium 137 is an interesting band, to say the least. They fuse dance floor oriented synthpop with slightly more aggressive industrial influences in order to create a rather unique sound. The vocals are generally deeper than most electronic bands care to go, and they are also ,surprisingly, not very harsh, in contrast with some of the music. As for the music, it is very impressive to say the least. The beats and synths are very catchy and danceable, but there is also a lot going on in there. It's a lot more complex than many other bands of this genre, and you can listen to a song a few times and here something new each time. A very pleasing experience.

Acid Ice Flows - Utumno

Acid Ice Flows is a band that you will never here about beyond this post. I got them from the Metropolis mail order website, and I'm glad I did. AIF creates very aggressive industrial music, but is only dance music in the loosest terms. I find that I couldn't dance to this, but rather nod my head and become engrossed with the music. Although Utumno is not overly complex or amazingly crafted, it is still a very solid album for fans of Harsh EBM or other aggressive industrial subgenres. The first track, Embrace The Ground, seems to be the highlight of the album. I highly recommend.

Grendel - Harsh Generation

Grendel is like being in a battlefield of electronic synths and pounding bass. The synths fly high above, creating an amazing danceable rhythm, while the cannons of bass create a world-shaking beat to move your feet to. That said, this album is another no-filler type of work. Other than the intro and the outro, this disc is 8 works of art that will make you drench your dance outfit in sweat. Void Malign, Harsh Generation, Dirty, ALL the songs on here are true EBM/Hellektro masterpieces, meant to be danced to until the day is done. I really do hope you enjoy.

Praxis - Sacrifist

Sacrifist is quite an album, but it most certainly isn't for everyone. This CD I borrowed from my father, and I must say it is equal parts bizarre and extreme. To start, Praxis has a lot of people coming in to help with this album. John Zorn, Blind Idiot God, Buckethead, Bootsy Collins and Bernie Warrell from P-Funkers, Mick Harris from Napalm Death, and Yamatsuka Eye from The Boredoms all show up to throw their respective talents into the mix. With that said, the actual music on this album is not exactly what one might expect. Sure, on the surface, it's a thrashy speedy type of metal. But sounds of breaking glass, ambient electronics, and other strange noises come in to make it a very, well, noisy and aggressive album. The vocals are simply screams and growls. No actual words are formed, just shrieking and screaming. All in all, this is an album for those looking for something different, but not for those who are weak of heart.

Sorry for not giving you something to chew on for so long, industrial fans. Let me make it up to you with the 2004 album of musical genius Rudy Ratzinger, or as we know him, :Wumpscut:. This album revisits the older mid-nineties sound of :W: and incorporates modern electronics into them, making for gritty, aggressive tracks that manage to pay homage to older :W: without sounding the same. Songs like 'March Of The Dead' and 'Crown Of Thorns' show typical hardcore industrial music made for the dance floors, but Rudy has also thrown in some slower, calmer tracks such as 'Your Last Salute' and 'In The Peace Of Night'. All in all, it's a really good album, and a necessary one for all fans of :Wumpscut:.

Aesop Rock: None Shall Pass

Bringing up another Aesop Rock album, "None Shall Pass" is the latest installment to the Aesop Rock legacy. This album continues his streak of stringing together tongue twisters over beats that will be stuck in your head for days. This is the only album I've heard to date that has pirates, physics lessons, and a plea to reinstate Pluto as a planet (The Harbor is Yours, Fumes, and Bring Back Pluto respectively) Aesop stuns once again in an amazing set of tracks that will leave you awed at his agile lyrics.

Track of the Album: For this album, I must say that "Coffee" is hands down my favorite. It's relatively easy to learn compared to other Aesop songs, and it feels like a major accomplishment when you do. <3 "Coffee"

Gorillaz - Gorillaz

Don't let the fact that the Gorillaz are rather popular deter you from this great album. The 'virtual band' is composed of the cartoon characters 2D, Noodle, Russel, and Mordoc. With that said, it is difficult do define this album. It switches genres in a heart beat, but seems to stay close to the hip-hop like funk that is prevalent on this CD. Songs like 'Punk' and 'Slow Country' are very different musically, but still have the musical signature of the Gorillaz. Definitely an album to download if you are a fan of hip-hop, alt rock, or just good music. NOTE: this is, unfortunately, the 'clean' version of this album. Fans of hip hop and rap have a reason to rejoice. Aesop Rock is one of the few rappers out there with bigger things to talk about than bitches and money. His lyrics are meaningful, flow amazingly, and will have you wondering about them for quite a time. Most notably are the first two tracks, "Daylight" and "Nightlight". Daylight, even starting at the beat, is a slow flowing, laid back look at life, with what ifs and indecision. Nightlight, however, expresses a much darker duality, taking some lines from Daylight, and twisting them to quite different meanings. These two songs alone will have you listening to the album for hours. Deep lyrics, mesmerizing beats, and mind boggling tongue twisters bring hip hop back to it's roots. Don't let the white skin fool you, Aesop Rock has rap in his soul.

Beck - Mellow Gold

I don't care what anybody thinks, this album belongs in the collection of any music fan. Beck is probably most famous for his song 'Loser', which is on this album. Loser itself is a really good song, and all the songs on this CD are just as good. There is really no filler on this album. It is a bunch of lyrical and musical genius. As you may know, Beck has a way with words. His lyrical prowess may even evoke laughter at times. His musical style is strangely experimental, but not in a way where it gets in the way of his music. All in all, this is definitely an album that belongs on your music catalog.

Those familiar with the industrial/EBM dance scene probably already know of Funker Vogt. Thanks For Nothing, their first release, is nothing short of amazingly aggressive beats and vocals creating a dancefloor storm. Songs like Black Hole and Animals help set the mood, for they are dark both musically and lyrically. To be quite honest, this album is different from their later releases. The synths are more gritty, the beats more aggressive, the vocals more harsh. But it is a good album in its own right, and a must have for the Funker Vogt fan, or those who like the harsh EBM scene.

Boy oh boy, have I got a treat for all of you obscure metal fans. Skymning is a band I picked up for 5 bucks at a used music store, and has been in constant rotation for me as of late. The heavy guitars and mad drumming create insanely good industrial death metal that is really not like any other I've ever heard. There are usually a small amount of lyrics, allowing for more focus on the guitar riffs and basslines. I highly recommend if you are a fan of either death, black, or industrial metal.

Thine Eyes Bleed is a death/thrash metal band whose vocalist sounds like he is on the brink of insanity. His screams and growls make the album what it is, characterizing this harsh, wild album. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works

Some of you may be familiar with Dillinger, and to others it may be new. In their newest album, Dillinger Escape Plan continues to make amazing mathcore metal, but also mellows out a bit. Some songs, like Party Smasher, are old school Dillinger, with screaming and thrashing metal. Black Bubblegum is a song that shows a more mellow (but still rocking out) kind of The Dillinger Escape Plan, where it sounds like normal rock. Most of the songs on this album are pretty short, but don't let that perturb you. It's definitely a good album.

You know, this is probably my favorite FLA album ever. Firstly, you have the very punny album name. FLAvour of the Weak? Just look at it for a second. It's funny. Secondly, I know you here me use the words 'complex' and 'engaging' a lot, but for serious, this album is both of those things. The sounds gradually build up until they reach a kind of euphoric frenzy, multiple unique sounds layered in order to create a sound like no other. This is the turning point in FLA's career, where they went from more rockish and metallic sounds to an almost all-electronic sound. Very different from the Artificial Soldier album, this album isn't really aimed at the dance clubs. Enjoy. I know I do.

12 Stones - Anthem For The Underdog

Pride and Fall is one of the leading creators of the futurepop genre, along with the likes of Assemblage 23 and VNV Nation. Here is the first of my 20th Century Masters albums, I have Quite a few. They do quite a good job putting together greatest hits albums, and have an extensive collection. For those not familiar with the Crüe, they're another badass, rambunctious 80's metal band. I wish I could post the entire liner notes for this album - they are a work of art in themselves. At one point, they say: "Yes, there were contenders to their throne, bad boy musicians, drinking too much, driving to fast, and generally leaving a petrol trail in their wake, but there was no one - make that no one - disrupting the class quite as consistently as the Crüe, you name it, they'd not only done it (at least once), but drunk it, snorted it, slept with it and come back to wipe their dicks on the T-shirt." ...........fuck yeah.....that sums it up.

OK, next up is BOC's Super Hits: another basic compilation, this one made by Sony. It contains most of BOC's best songs, as it should - being a greatest hits album and all. They include songs like "Black Blade", "Summer of Love" and their very haunting "Don't Fear the Reaper". This band is another essential classic rock band with great guitar. The solos aren't necessarily wild or crazy, but they fit well and are more mesmerizing than insane or technical as in many metal bands. The sad part about it is that BOC is not recognized as much as they should be for their influence on the metal world. Anyway, they're an easy listen, and mostly laid back so..... enjoy.

Einstürzende Neubauten is one of the leading industrial artists out there. Strategies Against Architecture, Vol.1, is a compilation of their older works. A band that makes almost all of their own instruments, the music itself is very unique. Gritty, hard percussion and various dada-like instruments like drills and jackhammers make very driven and aggressive music. Anyone who has listen to the newer, much calmer EN may be surprised by this album, but it is still a masterpiece in its own right. All the songs are sung in German, so don't expect to sing along. Bands such as Tomahawk, The Locust, and The Blue Man Group cite Einstürzende Neubauten as an influence in their work. Enjoy!

Artificial Soldier was the second Front Line Assembly albums I ever got, and has always remained in heavy rotation for me. It combines the dancey, hard style of industrial with FLA's famous attention to detail. Each song seems to have some sort brand new piece to it during every listen. Features Jean-Luc De Meyer from Front 242 doing the vocals on my favorite track, "Future Fail". Eskil Simonsson, from Covenant, is also a vocalist in the song "The Storm". An all-round great album.

Iron Maiden - Edward the Great: Greatest Hits

Iron Maiden is a BAD ASS BAND. There is no question about it. This very album was my first CD ever. Iron Maiden is an epic, essential Metal band. They band use a lot of history and mythology as the subject matter for their lyrics, which makes their songs very interesting. Also requires some form of intelligence and background to truly appreciate their lyrics. All of their songs are guitar-heavy, and there is something incredible and slightly eerie about the lead singer, Bruce Dickinson's, voice. There are no laid-back songs here, all of the songs on this album require intensive listening. Each guitar solo fits so well with the song that it incites a tingle in the spine the first time one listens to it. Again, this is another "Greatest Hits" album but it personifies Iron Maiden better than most. Definitely a rock solid starting point for future Maiden fans and the curious.

P.S. Track 11- Holy Smoke is missing. sorry. By the time I got a computer with iTunes, i had listened to it so much that it was no longer playable. The single song is downloadable from the iTunes store.

Front 242 has been making masterfully crafted industrial EBM for quite some time, and their 2003 album does not disappoint. Not only does it offer some good, dancey beats, it becomes quite quiet, even introspective at times. How To Download Music

First, download rarzilla, winRAR, winzip 7, or some other .rar extracting device.

Second, find a download. I will link to a download in all of my posts, so you don't need to look to hard for that.

Third, download it. Choose 'open with winRAR'. When it is done downloading, it will open with your .rar extractor.

Fourth, extract it to someplace you will remember it. Then retrieve it with iTunes or the Zune software or whatever it is you use. (for iTunes, go to 'Files', then to 'Add Folder To Library', and then go to where you extracted the folder)

Finally, listen and enjoy!
